Yo, Mo, Where'd You Go?

Well, well, well!  The #2 seeds pulled it out last night, with LSU’s gritty defense and Sylvia Fowles’ inside play sending UNC home.  Then, in an all-offense-all-the-time type game, the Stanford Cardinals sent Maryland packing.  That game featured an awesome performance by Kristi Toliver … and an even better one by Candice Wiggins, who posted her second over-forty game of the tournament!

LSU held the Tarheels to an amazing 50 points … that’s UNC’s scoring for the entire game, folks!  Meanwhile, in the nightcap, Stanford had 51 points in just the first half!  LSU goes to their 5th straight Final Four – a record that they now share with UConn.  (No women’s team has ever, yet, made it to 6 in a row!)  Meanwhile, I was surprised to discover that this is Van Chancellor’s very first Final Four.  I’m glad he’s added this milestone to the things he’s accomplished in his illustrious coaching career.  (Gotta wonder, too, if Pokey Chatman was watching and rooting for the Tigers … presumably from someplace in Russia.)

So, as we begin a new month, how’s it going in JordanCornblog Bracketland?  Well, Don has jumped into first place on the strength of his LSU and Stanford picks.  Morgan/Murray got LSU, but had the Terrapins winning the late game … so they’ve slipped just a bit.  Meanwhile, Jordy, Brigitte and Jeff also had the Stanford/LSU combo and gained some ground.  Many others in the pool had either LSU or Stanford.  We’ll see how things shake out tonight … but for now, here are the standings … [TABLE=30]

Finally, I hear that Pia has chosen her squad for CONCACAF qualifying (which starts on April 4th)!  She can take a 20-person roster, and can suit up 18 players for any given game.  Noteworthy (after a quick look) is the absence of Briana Scurry … gotta wonder.

Yo – just read your comment aloud to the gathered b-ball fans here. I am sure you will be hearing from Dewd later … and at length. Meanwhile, what a shame about Candace Parker!

Well even tho Dewd is a die hard UCONN fan, we do not know yet if they will be in Tampa. Tonite will tell. Even tho my pick Maryland went down, Stanford has always been one of my favs but have never made it too far. So, with Candace Wiggins playing on fire, we shall see. I look forward to seeing them in Tampa..I will try and tolerate Dewds pro-UCONN stance with humility…
Good to watch with you all the other night. Thanks for dinner!
