The USWNT Wins, the Men's Final Four Starts, and Philadelphia is Happy!

The USWNT defeated Jamaica 6-0, helped along the way by Abby Wambach’s 2-goal, 1-assist performance.  (As an aside, Wambach’s career total for goals is now 91 in 113 games … quite a pace!)

This win means that the US will play Mexico in the sem-finals (in front of an already-sold out crowd of 22,000).  According to US Soccer, Mexico is ahead in goal differential at the moment (having defeated Jamaica 8-1).  This means that a tie won’t help the US; they need a win on Sunday, and will be playing in front of a hugely partisan home crown in Cuidad Juarez!  Kick-off for Sunday’s game is 1:30 PM MT.  The action will, again, be available on MatchTracker.

In other soccer news, the Boston Breakers have announced that Harvard Stadium will be their home venue, starting in April of 2009.  While I loved BU’s Nickerson Field … the parking availability and tailgating possbilities make Harvard a great shift IMHO.

One of our peripatetic, Canterbury basketball fans is heading off to Tampa for the Women’s Final Four as I write.  The other leaves tomorrow.  Meanwhile … starting a little after 6PM ET, the four #1 Men’s seeds hit the court to see who’ll get to Monday’s Final.  Personally, my money’s on … flipping a coin!

Finally, the 76ers are in the playoffs, the Flyers are in the playoffs, and the Phillies are at 500 MUCH earlier than last year!  It’s a good morning to be a Philadelphia fan!
