Yes, Brett Favre is going to compete for his old job … and in this excellent commentary by Tom Curran, I find a good summary of the whole danged episode. I was too tired of Brett’s familiar ambivalence to pay a lot attention to the furor. Now I am caught up … and just in time to revise my Fantasy Football rankings in the quarterback slot!
In other sports updates, here’s the US Women’s Olympic Basketball schedule. The women defeated Latvia Sunday 84-74, with Sylvia Fowles leading the offensive charge with 13 points. This is a game preliminary to the Olympics – part of the FIBA Diamond Ball Tournament. (I’ll need to study up on this, as I don’t know how – or whether – it relates to the Olympics. At the very least I can tell you that a win is a win is a win. How’s that?) The US faces Russia today – a squad that includes Svetlana Abrosimova and Becky Hammon.
On the soccer front, Beulah has said that she will not be posting an article about the second US-Brazil match, but will be aiming to write up as many of the USWNT’s Olympic matches as she can.
From BigSoccer, here are the AP’s picks for the soccer medal winners …
My picks? I really do think the USWNT can do it – and I have Brazil with the silver over Germany. On the men’s side, I haven’t a clue … but were the US to medal, from what I’ve read, I suspect it would be a big deal and perhaps a bigger surprise.
The Phillies won on Sunday night and put some distance between themselves and the Mets and Marlins (both of whom lost).
That’s about all I know today, as I head off for a LONG drive to Stroudsburg, PA … to pick up a puppy for a friend. (At 20-something, this trek would have been nothing at all. We’ll see how it goes at 50-something!)
