A Quick Thought

This is a serious question: does anyone know a Republican who has specific reasons to support John McCain?  I have heard and read sound bites, dogma, fear mongering, accusations, bigotry, and character assassination.  I have heard about Senator Obama being “scary” and “not like us” and “palling around with terrorists.”

What I have not hear or read, anywhere, is why an individual supports John McCain.  None of my Republican-leaning friends have offered any.  I know I mainly read left-of-center stuff, but seriously… WHY would I vote McCain?  Argue for him!  Convince me!

Sadly, this election in some ways reminds me of the last one, when frankly even many Democrats couldn’t come up with a good reason to vote for John Kerry — other than “he’s not Bush.”  That’s not a strategy that wins.

So tell me Republicans, why vote McCain?  Why do you support him?

Gotta admit, I agree. Gave it my best shot! 🙂

But that’s the kicker. The Republican party is no longer the party of deregulation; they’re not the party of small government, or keeping government out of your living room (or phone lines); they aren’t the party of fiscal conservatism. Virtually every “pillar” of Republican values has either failed, or has been discarded by today’s Republican party. Supply-side (read: trickle-down) economics? Fail. Small government? Fail. Fiscal prudence? Fail. Deregulation? It failed, and then the Republicans were forced to back the biggest “socialist” bailout ever to make up for it.

So yeah, my question remains unanswered for now. But thanks for trying! 😉

Not being a Republican, I can only quote someone who isn’t nuts about McCain, but may vote GOP because he believes so strongly in deregulation of financial enterprises. He’s a college professor who teaches economics. In the same way that Dems feel everything would go great if only the GOP would keep their mitts out of things, the GOP feels about Dems. So each is a complete system with its own rationale. Sort of like family systems, right? “If only everyone were like ME…”
