Women's Basketball Time-Line

As you gear up for March Madness, check out this great women’s basketball time-line – from Helen Wheelock of Women’sBasketballOnline.com.

Looking at the time-line that runs through the ’70’s makes me feel a whole lot better about losing to the West Chester State freshman team year after year after year.

And check out this article by Senda Berenson, presented at a conference at Springfield College in 1899 and published in 1903, on “Basketball for Women.”

Now, picture Maya Moore … what a distance has been traveled!

I never got to be the rover πŸ™‚ and was thrilled when we went to full court, no silly rules!

I remember playing with Rovers and limited dribbles (three, I think???) in Junior High – an then the switch over to unlimited dribbles and full court in high school/college. Didn’t know about Donna Geils/Orender. That’s neat – that the President is also a player (just like Obama!) πŸ˜‰

Enjoyed the timeline from Women’sBasketballOnline. I lived through it! Did you know that Donna Orender, the current President of the WNBA, played for the powerhouse Queens College team under her maiden name, Donna Geils? (I know this because she was my sister’s counselor at basketball camp!)
