Fitting Things to Start the Week Off Right

Obama hosted the Governors in DC at a dinner where he toasted them with water … fitting for the times, I’d say.

And hee’s a bit about Colin Powell rejecting Cheney’s false assertions about Obama and the terrorist threat … fitting from someone with a brain and scruples.  (I think of it as “Colin rejects Dick” … a headline that, with a small spelling change, NH’s own Nancy Elliott would certainly support.)

And here’s an article about a couple of former Olympians who have become doctors … orthopaedic surgeons to be exact … fitting, I’d say.

Prospect Mountain faces off against Belmont in round 1 of the Class M Girls’ Basketball Tournament … fitting, I’d say.

Gotta go to work today 😦 and find out what the Bureau of Behavioral Health thinks of us after our audit … but in the meantime, those who can should check out the Breakers’ site for announcements re. the new international joinging the squad.  Who will it be????

And, as you start preparing for March Madness, better work Women’s Hoops Blog into your on-line repertoire.  The teams you pick (other than UConn of course) are gonna make all the difference.

Onward, now – and have a great day!

  1. OMG – how could I miss Edna’s birthday! Thanks for the reminder, Alice!

And Stephen … that is such a cool story! In a marginally similar vein, one of my favorite photos of RPE is a black-and-white of her at @ 3 1/2 months, on JPE’s lap, as they both intently watch Debi Thomas skating in the ’88 Olympics. (Not sure what RPE was actually seeing at 3 1/2 months, but it sure looks like she’s watching … and knowing her, she just may have been!)

Interesting that you link an article about Debi Thomas, my wife was just telling me this past weekend that she competed with/against Debi when she first started skating, and that they formed a bit of a bond because, unlike many of the young proteges who did nothing but skate 24/7, both Debi and my wife aspired to do things with their lives other than skate. Debi spoke a lot in her last year or so about becoming a doctor, and encouraged my wife to pursue her dreams outside of figure skating. Thomas retired shortly after that conversation, and my wife quit skating soon after that.

    Audits, shmudits–it’s Edna’s birthday!

I looked in my heart while the wild swans went over.
And what did I see I had not seen before?
    Only a question less or a question more;
Nothing to match the flight of wild birds flying.
Tiresome heart, forever living and dying,
House without air, I leave you and lock your door.
Wild swans, come over the town, come over
The town again, trailing your legs and crying!

So, what do you think?
