Hey – If They're Talking Proprioception, It Must be Time for LSU-Tennessee!

I and everyone from Foothills PT look forward to learning about proprioception and other Physical Therapy terms … as the LSU-Tennessee game gets underway! I’ll keep updating this post, as the game goes on.

After looking like a soccer game (points-wise) for the first 9 minutes, the lid is off. Parker just scored her first points, and at 10:56, things are heating up … and we’re learning that women like cup-holders in their Cadillacs!

Wow … Tennessee up 19-11 and Parker is on fire! That blocked shot by Sylvia Fowles seems to have fueled Parker’s determination (to put it mildly).  But LSU is back at the end of the half … and the teams head to the locker room with the score 22-18 Tennessee.

"Stanford Can, UConn't"

That’s the most clever sign I’ve seen at the Women’s Final Four so far … with 35.1 seconds left, looks like Dewd has seen all of UConn she’s going to at this Tournament … but UConn ain’t going easily. As the clock winds down, the announcers note that Diana Taurasi lost in her freshman year. Alice says, “Nothing matters anymore!” Dewd … we’re sorry. Stanford and Candice Wiggins and Jillian Harmon and Tara VanDerveer, congratulations! Can the #2’s continue to win tonight?

Post game … we talked to Dewd who is bummed. She reports that Paula was rooting for Stanford (and is ecstatic) and that they are sitting next to two couples who are the heads of the Maryland Women’s basketball boosters. Interestingly, they are neither alums nor parents. Not that’s dedication!

Alice is feeling better … she’s rooting for LSU now … and she just learned that the standings in the JordanCornblog pool haven’t changed at all, as NO ONE had Stanford getting this far!

Wow – it’s not looking good for UConn! Errr … wait! 4:34 left and UConn within 5 … I take it back. Jules is saying … “This is what happened against Rutgers!” Could the Huskies be coming back?

Stanford-UConn

Wow – 59-51 advantage Stanford ,,, with 7:59 to go. That Orbitz commercial is on … and I let out a big sigh, and then remind myself that I am thankful to the sponsors that make it possible for these games to be televised. Orbitz … and now Cadillac. Does your car turn you on? (My Elantra definitely has its moments!)

USWNT v Mexico at Full Time

The US women defeated Mexico 3-1 on first half goals by Natasha Kai (2) and Abby Wambach (1). Check back for details once US Soccer shares something! Mexico scored their goal in the first half, too … and it sounds like the US dominated the second half, but there was no more scoring. Mexico now faces Canada (the winner of Group B), with the winner qualifying. The US will face the runner-up in Group B, Costa Rica … with the winner of that match qualifying for the Olympics in the other CONCACAF slot. Here’s the quote sheet from US Soccer.

JordanCornblog's Syndicated Reporters Are All Over It in Tampa

We’ll be having eye-witness, on the spot reports from Tampa for all of the Women’s games, as up-to-the- minute coverage is being provided by none other than BJ, Dewd and Paula LR.

Their reporting may be slightly colored by their biases which I’ll lay out here, in the interest of full disclosure:

  • BJ is rooting for LSU but is also a longtime Tennessee aficionado.
  • Dewd is UConn all the way. Always has been.  Always will be.
  • Paula was rooting for Maryland and is now (judging from her recent comments on JordanCornblog) trying to arrive at a personal preference while at the same time keeping peace with Dewd. (They just called in and are on a veranda 3 1/2 miles from the venue, debating this very question I am sure!)

BTW, it’s not like anyone is rooting against Stanford! Maybe Paula LR will pick them up as a replacement for Maryland. I suspect they’re a secret, second favorite for all three of our reporters. Well, maybe not Dewd …

So there you have it, at @ 4 1/2 hours to game time!

Women's Hoopsters Gear Up for Tonight's Semi's

Parker Set to GoThe Dallas Morning News gives the edge to LSU and UConn in tonight’s games. The Seattle Times likes the star power, with four All-Americans hitting the court in Tampa for these games.

In a bit of a surprise for some … Candice Wiggins steps on the court with yet another honor … this year’s Wade Trophy … leaving Candace Parker with a little something to prove, maybe! Meanwhile Maya Moore and Sylvia Fowles continue to dazzle!Fantastic Fowles

Kate Paye and Bobbie Kelsey were on the last team to win it all for the Stanford women, and they’re back on the bench for the Cardinals in new roles … hoping for more hoop magic! Everyone, including Tennessee’s Candace Parker, is ready to go … and anyone want to guess who Julie Foudy is rooting for tonight?

Mexico Up Next for USWNT

The US Women’s Soccer Team faces Mexico today in a match-up that will decide who goes to the CONCACAF Final from their group.

Pia

While pleased with the way the team played on Friday, Coach Pia Sundhage sees areas in need of work … and it’ll be interesting to see what the Nats bring to the pitch today! It continues to be refreshing to hear a coach speak about things like style and creativity – and clearly the players are eating it up (and flourishing)! Check out the WNT Blog for more news about the team!

UCLA’s and UNC’s Hoop Hopes Go the Way of Heston

Okay, that’s an odd header, I admit … but it caught your eye, right? Memphis and Kansas move on to the Men’s final after handing UNC and UCLA what, for many, were surprising defeats (and by surprising margins)!

In JordanCornblog bracketland, things are shaping up for an interesting race to the finish. The wins by Memphis and Kansas mean that many more of us are totally out of the running (sigh). Chris continues to have a good shot at winning it all … in fact, if Memphis wins, that’s just what he’ll do … with a resurgent Gary in second and Rachel in third. Meanwhile, a Kansas win will mean that Jeff wins it all … with Holly in second (!), Chris in third, and Rachel 4th. Here’s how it looks in the table … [TABLE=32]
