Of Google Alerts, and Oikos, and Big Bill's Pettiness

Google AlertsI’ve been meaning to write for awhile about this very neat on-line tool that I’ve been using lately … Google Alerts! This is a free service whereby you can enter any number of keywords or search terms that you want, and receive alerts from Google by e-mail, whenever those terms pop up as the search engine crawls the web.

You can set the frequency of your alerts, and can also refine your “searches” by adding to the word-strings, or by enclosing terms in quotation marks (thereby telling Google that you want an exact match). When I originally logged onto Google Alerts, I set the frequency for all of my searches to “as-it-happens” which, it turned out, was a little too much for me. You can also set it for once a day or once a week. It’s a great tool for keeping up with your areas of special interest!

As for OikosOikosit is organic Greek yogurt. The “organic” part is obvious – and the “Greek” part means basically that some of the liquid is strained out, leaving an incredibly creamy concoction behind. It was a revelation to me the first time I had it, as it’s very, very low fat, but because of the way it’s made, tastes and feels so rich and creamy that you’d think it would be bad for you! It’s also very high in protein … and that’s something I’m always trying to add to my diet.

So check it out. It’s distributed by Stonyfield and I’ve seen it in lots of grocery stores around here in NH. It’s more pricey than regular yogurt – presumably because the straining process adds to the production costs. Still – the combination of high protein, low fat, and creaminess-verging-on-decadence is right on the money for me!

Big Bill ClintonAnd last but not least, we have today an article from the Telegraph.co.uk about Bill Clinton’s ongoing snit. Rather than looking at what he may have done himself to damage his credibility and reputation, Bill seems to be bent on blaming others – thereby further damaging his credibility and reputation! It’s kinda sad to watch – and I hope he gets his act together soon, and deals with his ego needs before all the strum und drang damages the Democrats’ chances in November.

My humble advise is to think long and hard about your blogging ethics before you accept any free cases of yogurt.

Yes – it’s fat free. (There are several levels of ‘fattiness’ … but it’s the free that I’ve tried.) I’m hooked … will be interested to hear what you think. (And will happily await my free case, too – I like that idea!)

Stonyfield should send you a free case of yogurt for that testimonial. I’m going to try it. But how much fat is low fat? I prefer fat free.
