Carli Lloyd News Flash

Here’s a quick bit about Carli … apparently she was on the Today Show yesterday (anyone see it?) and is going to be on Letterman tonight.  Let the PR begin!

Home from HollyCornblog's

I had a great visit with HollyCornblog and CharlieHopbrew and will be sharing tidbits about it Tennessee High Top!as time goes on. One thing I learned was that HollyCornblog was slightly offended that Pia Sundhage’s name was so much bigger than her own in the tag cloud. I tried to explain how that all works, but I don’t think that HollyCornblog was truly mollified. So please bear with me as I write numerous posts that include her name as a keyword .. and attempt to level the playing field. In the meanwhile, how do you like the cool … Continue reading

Wow!

I checked the score at the half … 1-0 US up. Okay, I thought, this is going to be one of those nailbiters. Next time I checked it was 6-0. Sounds like Pia may have her starting 11! Way to go USWNT!

Saturday in Seward!

Hey – it’s a beautiful morning in New York and I’m relaxing while HollyCornblog and CharlieHopbrew take one very nervous cat and a slightly-less-nervous dog to the vet’s. I’ve been learning all about single hop beers (amazing differences, depending on what hops you use!), and malts and yeasts and dry hopping and how you grow hops … and even a little bit about Wiki’s on the side … you name it! We may do some brewing later today (I use the term “we” rather loosely … and am sure I’ll learn a lot).

For now, though – a quick reminder that the USWNT is playing Canada this evening down at RFK. Kick-off is at 7PM and (of course) the game isn’t televised but will be available via MatchTracker. (I am hoping that Beulah will be able to attend this one in person … and treat us to another of her match reports. I seem to remember that she’s a Freedom and Mystics fan -so hopefully that means she’s somewhere close to RFK!) Oh yes, and Abby is closing in on her 100th goal – maybe tonight?

I read that Terry McAuliffe is speaking positively about a joint ticket. Interesting … that’s not something I ever thought Hillary would find acceptable … but I wonder if the way is being prepared.

And for CB … yes, Snapper Soup is a Philly thang! I am so pleased to read that it was William Howard Taft’s favorite soup.

Hey – It's FRIDAY!

I’m in a bit of a hurry this morning, as I’m heading off for a weekend visit to HollyCornblog and Charlie HopBrew this afternoon. Stay tuned for more news on that front.

Meanwhile, the USWNT plays Canada tomorrow at RFK. This game is NOT on TV, unfortunately. I found an interesting thread on BigSoccer discussing Pia’s coaching style and the current status of the team. It includes some video links, as well as a link to a very interesting interview with Pia by Steve Long.

On the goalkeeper front, I read that Nicole Barnhart recently had surgery on her knee.  Apparently the procedure was …  Continue reading

Title-less Tidbits on Thursday

I was noodling around the WPS site this morning and came upon this interesting blog post about The Forgotten History of Women’s Soccer … so thought I’d share the post and add the site (Soccer Science) to my Links. It meshes the worlds of soccer and technology in what look like some very interesting ways.

The news on the housing front seems unremittingly grim these days … so I wanted to share a very very positive development. In a recent interview on NHPR and article in the New Hampshire Business Review, we see that “the New Hampshire Community Loan Fund is launching ROC USA, a new organization to foster resident-owned communities in some 27 states.  The … Continue reading

Indiana Wants Me …

… but NC wants Barack more (and Indiana almost did, too). I read this morning that Hillary has cancelled all public events today. At the very least, that says she is not wanting to confront the inevitable questions about what she is going to do now.

On a personal level, this has got to be devastating. But as someone who’d been on the fence early on, I found myself turned off by her superficial attacks and substanceless pandering to the worst … Continue reading

Sports Museum of America Opens Today

The Sports Museum of America (SmA), the nation’s first and only interactive, multi-media all sports museum experience, opens today in New York. It’s billed as the first museum to pay tribute to the history and excitement of all sports. SmA partnered with more than 60 single sports Halls of Fame and other athletic organizations to showcase exhibits, memorabilia, stories and heroes from all walks of the sporting life.

Billie Jean Does Her Thing! The Museum hosts the first women’s sports hall of fame and is also the new permanent home of the Billie Jean King International Women’s Sports Center and the legendary Heisman Trophy and annual presentation. Here’s a great interview that Cokie Roberts did with Billie Jean back in early April of this year.

Located at 26 Broadway, in the heart of Lower Manhattan and at the corner of Broadway and Beaver Streets, SmA will be steps away from the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island ferries, Wall Street, South Street Seaport and the 9/11 memorial currently under construction.

Beulah's Match Report Is Up!

I checked first thing this morning and found Beulah’s match report up on her site (hooray)!

Aside from that, I’m afraid I’ve got nothing (to paraphrase Beulah). Oh yeah, except I hear there are a couple of primaries today. (Personally, I’d love to read Beulah’s commentary on this, too!)

Matildas Scare USWNT (Again)

Sorry to be a little late on the uptake, but I was away … so just watched the USWNT vs. Australia game last night. The game ended in a 5-4 win for the US and included some moments of offensive brilliance (many, actually) and some pretty scary miscues on the defensive end.

Angela Hucles scored the game-winner in stoppage time, one-touching an Abby Wambach header into the net from @ 8 yards out. (Abby’s header came off a beautiful, booming free kick by … Continue reading
