Posting from My Droid

That’s all … just posting from my Droid.  Who knows – might come in handy some day … like if I’m ever in an airport or a very very long line.

Swan Lake

Thanks for sharing this, Alice – it took my breath away!

And no, I am not going to be posting video constantly … but to make time for shoveling snow, I may fall back on this occasionally.  So here’s Shelby Lynne with Lucinda Williams … a duo I’d like to see do more together (and wish the sound were better).

And now … into the snow!

ZoeCornblog’s Surgery

ZoeCornblog underwent surgery yesterday to remove a lump that was growing, and was worrisome … so off to the vet’s she went yesterday morning.  And I am pleased to report that when HollyCornblog and CharlieHopbrew picked her up she had come through with flying colors.

The lump is a cyst, and ZoeCornblog has four days’ worth of pain meds … and a nice wood stove to recuperate beside.

But man … I would not be looking forward to having those stitches removed if I were Ms. Cornblog!  (And I wonder if the incision would have been shorter if Zoe had gone to Suncook River Veterinary Clinic … hmmmmm … Dr. Reeve, what do you think?)

So, needless to say, there will be no visits to the lake this weekend for those three.  Perhaps, instead, there will be some beer brewing.  And I do know that there will be some football-watching.

Meanwhile, up in the Helderberg Hills, the wind whips the snow across the lake, skimming it off the ice and around the house.  The path to the shoreline looks clear as can be.

But the winds have just carried the snow out back, where the drifts grow deeper and deeper, piled against the boathouse and the woodshed, roughed and reshaped by each gust blown from cold Arcturus.

Through the silent winter days and nights, there’s so much happening in those woods … so much that is unseen, mysterious, and (I am very sure) as absolutely necessary as breath.

The   seasons carry on … even as we might falter and get all weird and cranky and out of whack.  In the unseen and the silence, everything carries on.

Coming In

Or is it coming out? Either way, I hope to use this blog to fulfill my new resolution of not being the quiet pacifist which was based on this wonderful quote I found a few weeks ago:
“The quietly pacifist peaceful always die to make room for men who shout.” – Alice Walker

(Please note – all amazing things having to do with this blog must include the name Alice)

Things I am Learning This Morning

  1. Joe Lieberman is (probably) done.
  2. Watching RPE prepare to go to Israel … and watching PB head off to Botswana … and watching JBD and BJE get ready to fly off to Costa Rica is reawakening my sense of myself as the kid who can’t keep up (see page 44 in the following link) when the Pied Piper comes to town … sigh!  (And actually what it’s doing is awakening a small smidgeon of wanderlust that I never knew I had!)
  3. Asphalta is a goddess!  And congrats to Jodi and Pippa on finding a parking space … how long did it take?
  4. Oh, and the Steelers and Packers are heading to the Superbowl … so says someone who pretty much “knew” that the Pats and Eagles were in!  😉

So, Today It Snows

I was going to have a leisurely morning of blogging, but it appears that a “wintry mix” will be visiting us today and so, I am going to hitch a ride into town with one of my all-wheel-drive cronies and leave my car here to collect its allotted accretion while I head of merrily and carless into the breach.

I see that I have a new subscriber … so wanted to make a point of posting.  Welcome – and here’s hoping you are thoroughly entertained!

I would write more; however, my ride departs momentarily and if I miss out on this opportunity you, dear subscriber, might be having a houseguest tonight!

Later!

Testing 1, 2, 3 can anybody hear me?

Testing my newly-found POWER of the press! Thanks for adding me as a contributor, JordanCornblog! I’ll try to be thoughtful, intelligent, and insightful when I post. Or if not, at least somewhat entertaining! 🙂

Now, No Need to Worry …

… about the Pats any more (as DaddyCornblog would say).  Sadly, the Pats and Eagles are gone … so now we’re hoping for a Steelers-Packers Superbowl.  (That’s what the consensus is in these parts … and HollyCornblog agrees, so you know it’s gonna happen.)

Quite the shocker in Foxboro yesterday, eh?

So, we’ll turn our attention here to the WPS, which held its college draft on Friday.  Alex Morgan went first and is headed to Western NY.  The Breakers, whose home opener is set for April 17 at Harvard Stadium (Brrrrr) picked up Keelin Winters, Whitney Palmer, Katie Sheeleigh, and Tanya Taylor.

Meanwhile, with their first pick … and the second pick overall … Philly selected Sinead Farrelly, a native of Havertown, PA!  It’ll be fun to see how she fares.

Finally, I’ll be moving the blog this week … look for it over at https://jordancornblog.wordpress.com/ … and don’t be shy!

Happy Friday!

Yesterday I got briefly caught up in reading some hateful tweets from a Texan who was overjoyed that Kay Bailey Hutchinson was retiring … and clearly hoping for someone more to the far, far, far right to replace her.  This person’s Twitterstream was filled with animus and venom … racist, degrading, just hateful … and of course also full of that familiar victim feeling that we’ve been hearing a lot lately from some of the leading lights of the right.

Anyway – I read this person’s tweets and started composing retorts in my head, searching for the perfect one that would break through the miasma and maybe … just maybe … jolt this unfortunate woman into seeing how noxious her spew was.  (Or at least show the Twitterverse!)

Then I thought … STOP!  There is absolutely no point in reading or retorting to this stuff.  No point at all.

To remind myself of this, I just took a peek at that thin, blond smart-ass right-winger’s latest post (not willing to give even the smallest SEO points to these folks by mentioning their names) and felt that small jolt of incendiary anger that I always do … then set it aside.

If you need a bit of aerobic exercise, I recommend these sites.  I have even thought of creating a Twitter list titled “Haters” or something like that … to have them in one place, for that little adrenalin rush that one occasionally needs in the morning.

But there are far better ways to get that rush … and far better conversations to have.

So here’s to the marginalization of this hateful stuff in the coming year.  There is, quite simply, no need for it … and I am going to do my part to stop responding and focusing on what is degrading to us all.

There are far better ways to spend our collective time and energy.
