Gotta Go Shovel

Looks  like we really did get some snow here in Central NH last night … lovely end to a holiday weekend (IMHO).

Here’s hoping everyone in YOUR life is safe and sound … and wishing you all the best this season.

Now, to find that shovel … er Wovel!

JordanCornblog is Moving and Sue is happy!

Just a head’s up … this’ll be happening some time in January.  I’ll be moving my site to a WordPress hosted venue.  Why?  Mostly because it’s free, to be honest.

Folks who’ve posted here in the past … if you want to continue to have that option, let me know and I’ll get you set up.

The formatting options are a little different on the WordPress hosted blogs, but not really all THAT different.  Needless to say, I’ll be learning the ropes as I go along!

I’ll keep you posted as things evolve .. and in the meantime, hope you have a very Happy Holiday!

Oops, nearly forgot … it’s the repeal of DADT that Sue is happy about.  (Pretty cool … when’s the last time you saw her pleased about ANYTHING?)

Lisa Murkowski – A Christmas Miracle

It is fascinating to think about how things might come unraveled for the folks who were, just a few weeks ago, crowing about their take-over of our national legislature and salivating at the thought of ousting Obama and getting our country back on track (“Track” being, of course, one of the Palin children).

It was a vision of the future that had many euphoric … and some others of us depressed and terrified.

Enter the new … or, perhaps, one should say REALMaverick from Alaska, Lisa Murkowski.  Yup, that’s SENATOR Lisa Murkowski.

Nice to see Alaska with a Senator who is pretty much grounded in reality, has some intellectual curiosity, and who, perhaps most importantly, appears to be unafraid of Katie Couric!  This is a major positive development for our friends up north … not to mention for the rest of us.

It is going to be so interesting … watching how this all unfolds down in DC.

Who’s really the most powerful woman in Alaska?  Hmmmm … might we be witnessing the beginning of the changing of the guard.  (Sure hope so … for everyone’s sake!)

Updates for Alice!

First off … don’t forget that UConn is poised to set a new winning streak record tonight at 7PM ET on ESPN.  Will you be there?  (Doris … I’d remind you, too … but I didn’t think you’d be interested …)

Check out Geno’s comments about the record … and men’s/women’s sports … you GO, Geno!!!  (The discussion ain’t so interesting … but Geno, thanks!)

On the USWNT front, Pia has called 26 players into camp for some early January traiing.  Glad to see Jordan Angelli of Breakers goal scoring fame on the list!

In WPS news, Carli Lloyd is heading to Atlanta … so it’s a new team each year for Carli so far.  Hope she has a good year in Atlanta … has been injured or in a seeming funk for much of her first two WPS seasons, from what I can tell.

As for players NOT in funks … for the 6th time, Christine Sinclair has been named Canadian Player of the year … up there in that country that borders on the state where that woman-who-shall-go-unmentioned-but-whom-I-revile-in-my-heart lives.

And now … off to work.

Happy Solstice!

OMG

December 19, 2010.  A little more than 7 minutes left in a lop-sided mess of a game … and the Eagles score 28 unanswered points to win it in regulation!  DaddyCornblog would be so happy if he were alive (and if he wasn’t, come to think of it, in some amazing and mysterious way, involved in the outcome).

This game, occurring as it did on the 16th anniversary of his death … it’s kinda hard to imagine that he wasn’t aware.  Unless he has transcended such things.

(But I honestly don’t think Eagles fans do that … transcend things, I mean.)

As HollyCornblog posted on Facebook … “I watched the the Eagles get knocked out of the play-offs with my Dad the day before he died in 1994 . I always thought he died from a broken heart 😦 Today’s win was PERFECT, but exhausting :)”

Indeed … verging on the miraculous.  Kinda like that other Miracle at the Meadowlands … which I can picture DaddyCornblog watching back in 1978 … from his chair in the den at 110 Park Road … ecstatic!

Oh geez!

Hope you got to see this one, too, Dad … somehow!

Now THIS Makes Me Very Uncomfortable

I read this morning that the execrable John Bolton wants to run the country.  Aside from the fact that he is a belligerant, wrong-headed, hateful sort of a guy … is his hair not the weirdest ever?  I mean, seriously.  Does he use hairspray, do you think?  Is it real?

http://www.youtube.com/v/oN48qb_dwT8?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01

Hair aside, here is a wonderful video of the BBC’s Jeremy Paxman making this potential candidate look a tad like an idiot.

execrable

Meanwhile, I love this article from the Washington Post (circa 2005) all about his arrogance … as reflected in his appearance.  Right on!

And speaking of arrogance … listen to the skewed-verging-on-delusional-perspective of this man as he reacts on-air to a BBC reporter’s interview on Election Eve 2008 … you’ll get to see the entire interview, so you know what he’s talking about.

http://www.youtube.com/v/2NOmPnHg1i0?fs=1&hl=en_US&color1=0xe1600f&color2=0xfebd01

Don’t you want to ask him about Fox News?  I know I sure would value his thoughtful, balanced, and well coiffed perspective.  Oh, I forgot, he works for them.

Here’s a revealing tidbit from Wikipedia on this admirable human being.  He is commenting on why he chose, in 1970, to NOT serve in Vietnam …

Bolton supported the Vietnam War and enlisted in the Maryland Army National Guard, but did not serve in Vietnam. He wrote in his Yale 25th reunion book “I confess I had no desire to die in a Southeast Asian rice paddy. I considered the war in Vietnam already lost.”[14] In an interview, Bolton discussed his comment in the reunion book, explaining that he decided to avoid service in Vietnam because “by the time I was about to graduate in 1970, it was clear to me that opponents of the Vietnam War had made it certain we could not prevail, and that I had no great interest in going there to have Teddy Kennedy give it back to the people I might die to take it away from.”[15][16]

Sounds like the rationale that other strutting and privileged war-mongers like Dick and Rummy and crew probably found useful in justifying their own actions.  As they were clearly far more valuable to their families, the nation, and the human race, alive than dead, they needed to protect themselves for the important work they would be doing in the future.  (And I’m thinking that Dubya didn’t even have the wherewithal to think up a good excuse.)

These guys are just chock full of bravado, as long as it’s someone else who’s doing the heavy lifting.  Weighing the pro’s and con’s these execrable (there’s that word again – I love it in this context) gentlemen realized very clearly that less valuable humans should do the actual fighting.

Here’s Bolton getting all ballsy and bombastic about WikiLeaks, asserting that Obama is the real threat to our security in this storyline.  Were the shoe on the other foot, would he not be accusing himself of treason right about now?

Bottom line, and looking past the hair, I just can’t stand the hypocrisy, cognitive dissonance, and intellectual dishonesty of dudes like this.

But rock on, ambassador … I am sure you’ll have plenty on your bandwagon before all’s said and done.  I just hope to god it’s not enough to get you elected (to ANYTHING)!

Okay America … get ready.  The ugliness is taking a whole new turn with this dude talking about entering the fray.  Nasty, nasty, nasty.

Wake Up and Smell the Coffee, Tea Partiers

Not that you’ll listen, but here’s your To Do List for this holiday season:

  1. Go see “Inside Job.”
  2. Go see “Fair Game.”

Not too difficult, eh?  You can do that in between episodes of that Alaska reality show that has captured your fancy.

Anyway, after you’ve gone to the movies (and preferably seen both of ’em) … please e-mail me at admin@jordancornblog.com and explain to me why you are more upset about Healthcare Reform than you are about being robbed blind and/or duped into a totally unnecessary war by the likes of Dubya, Dick, Scooter and Turdblossom.

I am seriously curious about why you weren’t up in arms when this current deficit was being created … and when you were being so blatantly lied to about just about everything … and when your sons and daughters were being callously put in harms way for ego and oedipal revenge and Halliburton’s profit.

You say you are all about not wanting government to abuse its power.  Well, where the hell were you during the most egregiously abusive eight years in recent memory?

What were you thinking?

And whose tool do you think you are now?

Oh No … Say It Ain's So!

More bad news on the WPS front, as the Red Stars have announced that they are suspending operations for 2011 … and hoping to rejoin the fray in 2012.  Obviously, this is not good, as it whittles down the teams currently competing to six.  However, on a brighter side, the league continues!

Does it make me nervous to hear about this?  You bet.  But did the small matter of the previous three teams folding lead to the demise of the league?  No!  Chicago seems like it has a very active and committed fan base.  They “just” ran into problems with lining up investors.  That tells me that the interest is there … it’s “just” that some deeper pockets are needed.  Not easy to find them … but isn’t that easier than drumming up fan interest where it doesn’t exist? Anyway … here’s hoping the Red Stars are back in 2012!

In other news on the Women’s Sports front (placating Alice here) …

Oh, and Cliff Lee?  He’s still heading to Philly!
