Teabaggers – Who Knew??!!

Thanks for this, AMR …

… and for clarifying/expanding the meaning of “teabaggers” … for anyone who missed it, it’s apt on so many levels!

Oh, and I feel SO naive!

Monday Musings

I’m working from my “basement office” today because our floors are being buffed and poly-urethaned.  An adventure.  Ruby is with me, under house arrest, as she has already helped herself to part of one of the guys’ lunches (a feat she accomplished while Willie and I were walking down the driveway to get the paper).  She is, needless to say, perturbed.

FFootball got off to a great start (from my perspective) with 2 Blitzen’ Babes cleaning up – at least through last night.  My prediction?  Brattybeaglebutts will give us a run for our money before tomorrow morning … with 4 players yet-to-play … and most of ’em being from the Pats (who go against the seemingly hapless Bills tonight).  I do think you should bench Welker, tho’ … unless you know something I don’t, Brattybb.

My only other comments will be limited to the glimpse of Jay Cutler that I got last night watching the first half hour or so of the Bears vs the Vikings.  I found him a thoroughly dislikable character.  Judging from his body language (and what I heard from by FFootball chat buddies) he has the smarts, self-awareness, and sense of team play that we’ve come to expect from the likes of the teabaggers.

Yikes – his antics may be more annoying (and certainly far less entertaining) than TO’s!

Tea and Lies

Glad to see teabaggers being called on more lies this morning, as they have apparently been shamelessly exaggerating the numbers of teabaggers who showed up in DC to vociferate yesterday.  Or maybe it was just a miscount … easy to mistake 60,000 people for 1.5 million.

It’s the kind of honest mistake that might be made by someone who is also prone to snatching phrases like “Nazi” and “death panels” out of thin air and using them as weapons.  Or folks who are inclined to cite God, Jesus and the Bible to back up every hateful and hairbrained idea that percolates up from their festering, repressed and rageful subconsciousnesses.

Bury ObamacareNasty folks, these.  If you disagree with them, watch how ugly and extreme things get … like this sign … free speech or a veiled, racist-ish death threat?  Nasty, nasty stuff.

But anyway, yup – easy to confuse 60,000 and 1.5 million people.  Honest mistake.  Not a lie.  Goodness no.

What I still don’t get is … if it’s not racism or sheer partisanship, what are they all so riled up about?  Where were they when Bush did his tax cut thing … or put us into debt?  Why now?  Why healthcare?

Craziness.

Ugh!

Unending Bizarre and Violent Behavior from the Family Values Party

The party that purports to be the watchdog for morality and family values here in the USA never fails to deliver when it comes to hypocrisy.  And I never tire of hearing about the repressed and repressive dudes whose fragile egos and rigid super-egos implode while their angry ids run wild.  Sometimes it’s laughable and sometimes it’s really, really disgusting and tragic because of the suffering they cause.

There’s the drug-addled pundit so aptly named Rush … and the self-righteous Lothario, Mr. Sanford.  That anti-gay preacher whose name escapes me … but who had his fun on the side.  The list goes on and on and on in very predictable fashion.  Furious, self-righteous, controlling, judgmental folks are just usually judging others for what they secretly are doing or want to be doing themselves.  There’s no way around it.  You see someone getting all red-faced while they are railing against something … just wait and watch the news.  It’ll come out, whatever it is.

So, for example, Joe Wilson getting all huffy and calling Obama a liar?  Yeah, you got it.  Liar, liar pants on fire, Mr. Wilson.  Turns out he and his family are all very well taken care of by that evil entity – government-run health care.

But there’s more!

Thanks, AMR, for your introduction of another leading light from the right-wing pantheon, Michael Duvall, from California.  He likes to spank (and that’s no lie).  As expected, his political profile offers the typical rigid, righteous rhetoric:  As legislator, Duvall has “blasted” efforts to promote gay marriage. The conservative Capitol Resource Institute gave him a 100% rating, calling him “a consistent trooper for the conservative causes” who “voted time and time again to protect and preserve family values in California” It’s all so predictable, it’s almost laughable.

Or not.  This is a chilling story just coming out of Kentucky … about Steve Nunn, a former GOP lawmaker who was found wandering in a cemetery after a former girlfriend was found dead.  Not laughable.  Not at all.  But how many of the folks who scream about how pro-life they are would also deny the reality of domestic violence (or think it’s a husband’s prerogative)?

So anyway … I’ve had it with the self-righteous, raging, hypocrisy. What the ailing GOP needs is some kind of intervention.  Or exorcism.

Oh, and next time you hear someone call Obama a liar .. or, say, a Nazi … check for the secret drawer with the swastika-embroidered ladies’ underwear and the whip.

Trust me, it’s there!

Speaking of Liars

Don’t give this guy money … give him a diagnosis and get him some help!

Paranoid flavor, for sure.  Quite a few delusions, too.

Dana Milbank has written an excellent piece decrying the GOP’s bad behavior the other night – Mr. Wilson being just one example of what was a generally poor display by the alleged grown-ups representing the Republican Party in Congress.

Someone was asking the other day, why all the heightened affect about healthcare reform?  If you think about it … isn’t it odd that people are so impassioned about it?

As reflected in a bizarre comment left on the blog yesterday … I think it’s more about Obama than about any particular issue.

And it’s more about racism than it is about Obama.

Sorry to say it … sorry to see it … but the ugliness of America’s fear and hate-filled underbelly is on full display as these folks vent their bile.

Who in the GOP will stand up and say enough?  Is there anyone left in the Republican Party with scruples?  With a backbone and a brain?

This 9/11 I feel like we are seeing and hearing what fear mongers and hate mongers create with all their vile “mongering.”

It is ugly.

It is unworthy of us.

But here it is.

Awesome Speech, POTUS … and Shame on You Joe Wilson

Obama was just great last night, IMHO — clear, inspiring, presidential.  I am still amazed to hear complex thoughts uttered from that bully pulpit, having (unfortunately) gotten used to the smirking chimp.

Joe Wilson, meanwhile, is an embarrassment.  Between Joe and the antics of their Guv, South Carolina definitely needs to hire a PR firm.

I’m late (again) … but here’s a reminder that England is set to play Germany today in the Euro final.  BBC is televising (but we don’t get it … blah!)

Here’s Kelly Smith’s lowdown on her teammates … go England!!

Oh, yeah – and the Phantastic Phootball Phanatics get underway tonight as the NFL season opens.  Oh my!

You'd Think …

… that the Euros were pretty much all there is that’s newsworthy in the world, if you limited yourself to JordanCornblog.  It’s just that with healthcare denial the apparent top priority of Congress, and Obama dangerously on the prowl, accosting schoolchildren with his socialist ideas … I’m basically too discouraged and/or angry to write about anything other than England’s history-making run on the soccer pitch.

Is that so wrong?

Learned from MLD yesterday that the BBC will be showing (on TV and the web) the England-Germany match tomorrow.  I assume it’s also be available at the justintv link I posted on Saturday (just scroll down, it’s there).  I’ll be at work … so if I can follow at all, it’ll be on the matchtracker on the uefa site.

And ChristopherCornblog sent me a nice video yesterday … would that we could gain some traction and get this done!

PS – Congrats RPE and SK!!!!  ;>)

Take Cover Today, Keep Your Kids Home, Lock the Doors!

Yes, the terrifying fact is that the President is going to speak to school children today.

Caring parents everywhere in the States are taking steps to protect their progeny from this possibly quite harmful event.  (In NH, consideration is being given to reporting parents who allow their children to attend school and risk exposure to Obama’s speech.)

I certianly hope that everyone has heeded the warnings from pundits on the right … because we all know how scarring inadvertant contact with intelligible thoughts and ideas can be.

Quickie

So happy that England won yesterday (and it was even available on line)!

Stay tuned – today it’s Germany v. Norway … same link as yesterday for the webcast (and same time, too … I’m thinking).

If Norway could knock off the Germans … how cool would that be??!!
