The Last Primary Tuesday …

… and it’s reported on the Huffington Post that Hillary Clinton will be making a major speech tonight – one to which she’s invited major donors and supporters. If this isn’t it, it’s gotta be coming soon. It’s my hope that at this juncture, Hillary will go gracefully and the party can begin to unify.

Speaking of going gracefully … I love that Dawn Gibbons is refusing to! In another scandal involving the sleazy underbelly of the Republican Righteousness Machine, Governor Jim Gibbons’ (R-NV) wife is threatening all sorts of juicy details about his philandering and shady dealings. Bring it, Dawn!

Then, there’s this departure, in which Arthur Mkoyan the Bullard High valedictorian (Fresno, CA – with a 4.0 GPA, no less) is … Continue reading

Monday Evening (I Know, I Know, I Need to Work on the Post Titles!)

Wow – lots of hits on JordanCornblog today! Seems like folks are having a hard time getting back into the swing of things at work, huh?  Well, it’s a beautiful Monday and I’m indoors noodling around with Microsoft Frontpage … and looking out at the gorgeous new spring-green leaves.

I’m adding another link to the soccer selection – a blog about Swedish Soccer by a frequent poster on BigSoccer who seems very knowledgeable and offers something other than our USWNT-centric view of the world! The Blog is called Damallsvenskan Newsblog. Enjoy!

Finally – Congratulations, CB – sounds like a huge step you’re taking. Glad to see that kayaking metaphors are fitting – a sure sign that you’re on the right track!

And ML … HollyCornblog is very, very upset with you. I can’t repeat much of what she said … but rest assured that I didn’t give you up (it was the map that did it).  Uh oh.  😦

New Link-New Category

I just added a new category of links – “Bookeaters’ Blogs” for blogs about books. (I suppose they could actually be about eating, too.)

Thanks, ML, for sending along the first suggestion. Other suggestions of good sites for book reviews, book ideas … anything book-related … are most welcome!

New Day, New Week, New Month

Wow – it’s another beautiful Monday morning. We definitely need rain, however – so I’m floating a prayer to the rain gods up through the burgeoning, interlaced leaves, as we speak!

This morning – a new morning at the start of a new week in a new month – I’m thinking about clearing out some of the detritus the accumulates like mold in my environs. Here’s a divestiture-inspiring piece from Olivia Zaleski of The Huffington Post – one that I’ll keep in mind as I toss a few things into the dustbin of history (as it were) today.

Meanwhile- don’t forget to vote in the JordanCornblog poll over there on the right. Not only will your feedback help set our editorial direction for the coming weeks … but it’ll help us learn to manage the polling software!  Interested in the results?  Check here!

First Sunday of June

What a thing to wake up to on a beautiful Sunday morning – an article about Greg Ryan at Michigan. Ugh. He’s throwing everyone under the bus – Hope Solo, Mia Hamm, the former Michigan coach. (His mother seems to be safe for the moment at least.) I continue to be mightily unimpressed with him as a human being … not to mention as a coach. Any day now, he’ll be saying “Mission Accomplished” like the other guy pictured below. (I titled these photos dumb and dumber!)

Dumb Dumber

I don’t know what to follow this with, to be honest.  Looks like the Dems have settledfor now at least.

But you know what?  It’s just too nice a June day to spend more time writing and ruminating.  HollyCornblog is probably already on her way to the lake … and I’m going to head out to the gardens before the bugs take over entirely!

Miscellaneous Stuff on the Last of May

Here’s a nice interview with Tarps, Carli and Cat after a USWNT practice – looks like before CONCACAF qualifying. Nothing earthshaking, but we take what we can get! And here are Carli and Hope discussing the new WPS franchise slated for Philly in 2010. Yee Hah!

Bush Flipping OutMeanwhile – an excellent piece here about John McCain’s You-Tube troubles.

And in other quasi political news (a stretch, I realize), HollyCornblog has shared another flattering photo of the prez that she found in her attic … wonder who he’s flipping. Scott McClellan, maybe?

And speaking of You-Tube – these videos of the Young at Heart chorus are priceless – as is the movie!

I guess the Phillies showed the Marlins what for last night! They move into first place with the win – and Chase Utley now has an MLB-leading 13 home runs! And then the Sox pulled one out in the lucky 13th. Hopefully their offense will be back on track soon – but a win’s a win. And its another Celtics-Lakers final … like the good old days. And I’m off …

Bush Being Bush … Then it Gets Better

Bush Being BushThese photos from Bush’s visit to the Air Force Academy are, on the off-chance that you’d forgotten, photos of the self-proclaimed leader of the free world. (They also will, like so much else he has done, help al Qaeda in their recruitment efforts I am sure.) Great job, Bushie!

On a more interesting and uplifting note, here’s an article Continue reading

Missionary Mission Accomplished (Almost)

I am so discouraged by the perversions of meaning and truth and decency promulgated by this administration that I hardly know where to begin … but here goes. The latest has to do with news of US soldiers proselytizing in Iraq. Clearly the Pentagon and DOD have learned nothing after the push to distribute “Freedom Packages” to soldiers was stopped last summer. So is this war about exporting religion? Democracy? Or is it about importing oil? Clearly it’s not about anything you said it was about originally, Mr. President.

It makes me want to read Matt Taibbi’s The Great Derangement ASAP. In fact, I may just download it right now! 😉 Mr. Taibbi writes for Rolling Stone and also has a great site … The Smirking Chimp. Here’s an excerpt from his new book, posted on Alternet.

On a happier front … we turn to the USWNT … in camp and training for The Peace Queen Cup. Here’s a great (meaning good – and also huge) collection of photos from camp. The team is clearly working very hard!

And finally, HollyCornblog will be upset if I don’t mention her … so I am!

Now it’s off to the treadmill for me. (And no, I am not riding my bike to work today.)

Another Republican Squawker and a Chicken, Too!

Scott McClellan is going to be selling some books shortly. I LOVE anything that could further damage Bush and maybe even buttress Congressional efforts to nail some of these guys. But it also bugs me that Mr. McClellan is going to be making money hand over fist with his squawk … after participating in what he decries. (And, to his credit, he did get out … which can’t have been easy given where he started.)

Meanwhile, here’s a bird that no one can feel ambivalent about – Mr. Joy! He’s a Continue reading

Phillies' Bats Huge … McCain Batting 0.00

First the Phils, who’ve scored 35 runs in their last TWO GAMES and yesterday routed the Rockies 20-5. It’s early in the season – but great to see them scoring so many runs (and with Howard still not up to speed).

On the McCain front, here’s a good piece from Ariana Huffington about his abysmal and utterly consistent record on women’s health issues and reproductive rights. She notes: “Since 1983, in votes in the House and the Senate (where he has served since 1987), McCain has cast 130 votes on abortion and other reproductive-rights issues. 125 of those votes were anti-choice [pdf].”

The bad news is that most people see McCain as a maverick and don’t realize how closely he toes the line on these issues. The good news is that he will lose votes, as people do realize his views and intentions regarding women’s health ad reproductive rights. It’s crucial to get the word out!

Finally, HollyCornblog and CharlieHopbrew did get to the Lake yesterday and Continue reading
